Start from your hotel by 6:30 AM and head to Qutub Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world at 72.5 metres. Built by Qutb ud-Din Aibak starting in 1193, the complex includes the Quwwat ul-Islam mosque (the first mosque built in India after the Islamic conquest), the Iron Pillar dating from the 4th-5th century CE that has resisted rust for over 1,600 years, and the tomb of Iltutmish. Early morning gives soft light, far fewer visitors, and the full scale of the complex becomes apparent. Allow 90 minutes here.

From Qutub, proceed to Humayun's Tomb, built in 1570 and considered the precursor to the Taj Mahal. The monument is the first garden-tomb in the Indian subcontinent and introduced the chaharbagh (four-quadrant garden) design that influenced all subsequent Mughal architecture. The tomb sits at the centre of a 13-acre formal garden with pathways, water channels, and smaller tombs of Mughal nobility around the main structure. It is less crowded than the Taj and comparably detailed.

Lunch around Khan Market or the Lodi area keeps your route compact. The Lodi Garden is a 90-acre park containing 15th and 16th century tombs of the Sayyid and Lodi dynasties surrounded by manicured lawns. It is one of the best walking spaces in central Delhi for a mid-day break between monuments.

If energy allows, visit the National Museum on Janpath (closed on Mondays) for India's most comprehensive collection of archaeological finds, Mughal miniature paintings, and ancient bronze and stone sculpture. Even one focused gallery gives historical context that enriches all subsequent monument visits on this circuit.

Connaught Place in the evening is central Delhi's cleanest outdoor space: circular colonial-era colonnaded buildings around a park. Walking the inner and outer circles takes 30 minutes and gives a very different architectural mood from the Mughal monuments.

Pack by night for early Agra transfer tomorrow. Keep Agra Fort and Taj Mahal tickets pre-booked online to avoid queue time; the Archaeological Survey of India website sells combined tickets.
